Maura Thompson is a partner at Shillingtons LLP. Maura’s litigation expertise includes over 20 years’ experience in insurance defence-related work for large insurance companies as well as Ontario mutual farm insurers.
Maura practices in a variety of areas including mva defence, subrogation claims, CGL claims and SABS matters. Maura has established a particular focus in defending claims involving historical abuse, sexual assault, medical/professional malpractice and negligence claims arising against public entities. Maura represents numerous CAS’s in Ontario with respect to abuse and negligence claims. She also provides legal services involving Human Rights Tribunal Act matters. In 2018, Maura became certified in conducting workplace harassment and violence investigations.
Maura completed her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University followed by her law degree at the University of Windsor and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1997. Maura has court and trial experience at all levels of Ontario courts
Maura is a frequent chair and speaker at legal industry programs. She is a member of Canadian Defence Lawyers, the London Claims Association and The Advocates Society. Maura volunteers her time for St. Joseph’s Hospice, the Child Advocacy Project and Crestview/Anago Third Party Rights Review Committee. She was a longstanding Trustee of the Middlesex Law Association and past president of the Women’s Law Association of Ontario – London Chapter.
